PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY – KANLAON VOLCANO ASH FALL
Following the moderately explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano at 7:33 AM today, July 9, 2026, as reported by PHIVOLCS, a dark gray ash plume rose approximately 2–3 kilometers above the summit. Ashfall has also been reported in several affected areas, including parts of Cebu City and nearby communities.
In times like this, everyone is strongly reminded to remain calm, stay informed, and take necessary safety precautions to protect themselves and their families from the possible health effects of volcanic ash. Ashfall may cause eye irritation, breathing difficulties, skin irritation, and reduced visibility, especially for children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, close all windows and doors, and avoid going outside unless necessary. If going outdoors cannot be avoided, wear a face mask or cover the nose and mouth with a clean damp cloth. It is also best to wear protective eyewear or glasses to prevent ash particles from entering the eyes.
Avoid using contact lenses during ashfall. Keep food and drinking water covered to prevent contamination. Pet owners are also reminded to bring pets indoors and keep their food and water protected. Motorists should drive carefully, as ashfall may reduce road visibility and make roads slippery. Avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
